- A disaffected soldier returns to his hometown to get even with the thugs who brutalized his mentally-challenged brother years ago.
- An amnesia victim is a well liked and respected member of his community--until one day someone from his past shows up with evidence that in "the old days" he had been a notorious criminal, and threatens to expose him unless he pays off.

- Tom and Mabel were sweethearts, but Tom did not seem to get on in a business way, so Mabel started him for the West. Tom blew in his little stake before leaving, and arrived out West broke and discouraged. There he fell in with two crooks and with them laid plans to hold up the pay wagon of the construction camp. Meanwhile, a hobo got off a freight and strolled to the camp in search of work. He needed only a chance to reform. He watched the men place a stick of dynamite and leave, and too late, saw Tom, crouched down in the danger zone, gun in hand, waiting for the pay wagon. There was a terrific explosion and Tom died. Hurrying to the scene, the hobo donned Tom's clothes and papers, secured work, took Tom's name and prospered. Worrying over the absence of her intended, Mabel and her father visited the construction camp. They asked for Tom and his namesake, now clean shaven, handsome and prosperous-looking, responded. There were explanations and a visit to the grave. "With him I buried my failures," said the other. In the days that followed, Mabel found she still wanted the name of Tom, and eventually married him.
- Newly-promoted Second Lieutentant Brian Ash joins his new regiment only to find that they are assigned to bomb disposal in London. Ash is thrown in at the deep end when he and his men are sent to a bomb site.
- News commentator Fred Prescott is murdered and his assistant, Jim Keller, is arrested for the crime. The two had been feuding because Prescott had canceled Keller's investigative story on the "accidental death" of a building inspector at a construction site.
- Agent John Gilsen has uncovered a global drugs racket and,in fear of his life,returns to his native village in the English countryside to where he is pursued by assassin Guardino. Peters,the urbane head of the drugs ring,also engages McGill to find the fugitive but under false pretences. When a C.I.A. agent,also on the trail,is killed McGill sees that he has been duped and sets out to locate Gilsen before Guardino and put an end to Peters' network.

Family, regret, violence, and brotherhood are all examined in this story of a military man who has returned home to confront the crew of low-rent criminals who abused his brother - but while the setup may seem familiar, nothing plays out the way you expect it to, and what at first seems like straightforward vengeance plot line slowly evolves something much deeper and more meaningful.
